Before Scott Maskin founded SUNation Solar Systems in 2003, now SUNation Energy, he began his career as an electrician in 1980 as a stage production crew member for several years. This led him to pursue his Master Electrician’s license in 1994 when he established his own electrical contracting business which he ran for 18 years.

Wanting to provide a more complete home solution and focus on elevating customer experience, Scott transitioned into the solar industry in 2001 and became certified for LIPA’s Solar Pioneer Program. He helped install one of the earliest solar panel systems on Long Island. Two years, later he founded SUNation Solar Systems.

Over time, SUNation’s services expanded from residential and commercial solar to include backup battery energy storage, electric vehicle charging, and in 2022 a new roofing department. With the company employing over 170 employees, Scott’s focus on putting the customer first has never waivered. SUNation’s in-house Service Department continues to provide a top-notch customer experience for over 12,000 customers across Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.

As CEO, or as he’s affectionately known as “Chief Fun Officer,” Scott maintains a happy and collaborative work environment and has recently worked with Suffolk County Community College to create a solar installer certification course to better prepare the next generation of solar installers.

A huge advocate for helping the community, Scott leads by example through his involvement in many nonprofit organizations and causes. Not only is he a board member for the HIA-LI, Marty Lyons Foundation, and Family Service League, but he’s fostered many dogs and puppies for Last Chance Animal Rescue, working with America’s Vets Dogs and the Guide Dog Foundation to help them find good homes where they can be of service to those in need.

A supporter of Long Island Cares and Island Harvest Food Bank, Scott encourages the SUNation team to support the community through company-wide fundraisers and food, clothing, and toy drives for these organizations. In 2016, he created SUNation Cares, a not-for-profit foundation that donates solar to families in need and most recently in 2021 to Wuneechanunk Shinnecock Preschool.
