Local music communities across the Philippines continue to face strong competition from global music trends, with international content dominating streaming platforms and mainstream exposure. In cities outside the capital, such as Cagayan de Oro (CDO), talented musicians often have limited access to platforms that allow them to showcase their work, connect with wider audiences, and sustain creative careers—despite their meaningful contributions to the Philippine music industry.

As a leading lifestyle and community destination in Northern Mindanao, Ayala Malls Centrio has long championed local culture and creative communities. Building on this commitment, the mall launched Sonata: Bisaya Music Festival, a three-day signature music event designed to elevate Bisaya artists, celebrate regional identity, and provide a credible, high-visibility platform for musicians from the Visayas and Mindanao.

Sonata featured a curated lineup of established and emerging artists across diverse genres, including traditional folk, classic, and Pinoy Pop. The festival opened with Alab ng Himig, a vocal competition highlighting 19 solo performers, followed by Hinugyaw sa Musika, which showcased 16 local bands. These competitions allowed grassroots talents to perform on a professional stage, supported by production standards comparable to major national music events. The festival culminated in headline performances by Urbandub and Oh! Caraga—well-loved Filipino bands rooted in the Visayas and Mindanao—drawing strong public interest and enthusiasm.

The event was warmly received by both attendees and the online community, who praised the festival’s focus on regional talent and its fresh approach to mall-based entertainment. Sonata achieved strong digital performance, reaching 356,023 users, generating 198,308 engagements, and delivering 482,532 impressions. On-ground, the festival drove tangible business results, with average mall foot traffic reaching 78,195 visitors, reflecting a 12.15% increase year-on-year during the event period.

Following its success in Cagayan de Oro, Sonata was adopted by Ayala Malls’ sister locations across the Visayas and Mindanao, including Capitol Central, Ayala Center Cebu, Central Bloc, and Abreeza Davao—establishing the festival as a scalable and sustainable music platform. Through Sonata, Ayala Malls Centrio strengthened its role as a cultural catalyst, amplifying local voices while creating meaningful engagement for audiences, partners, and the broader creative economy.
